Series: Recovering Desire
How much beauty do you think we miss every day? I think if we could somehow capture the data it would be staggering. The encouraging comment that someone shares, the beautiful sunset that we drive by, the calm breeze caressing our face, the great power of a thunderstorm, the unfettered laugh of a child, the creativity of a co-worker and on and on… and how much of this are we present to? How much of this do we soak in? How much of this do we as much as give a moment of gratitude to?
But our walls are high and practiced. We are too quick to attempt control to pause long enough to let beauty have its say. We easily diminish, we look for the threats instead of opportunities, we find the faults and judge, we are just too busy, too anxious, too angry or too self-absorbed to soak in all the goodness around us… and it is killing us.
Please don’t underestimate the powerfully good impact on your life that simply being open to beauty can have. It will surprise you. It will romance you. It will make you laugh. It will warm your heart. It will comfort you. IF. If you are open to beauty you will find that it has been pursuing you all along and if you allow it to, it will fill you up. So pause and breath in the fresh air. Smile and fully receive a kind word. Laugh and giggle along with the child’s delight, find peace in the mutual silence of an intimate friend, enjoy the lingering warmth of a sunset.
This is the beginning of recovering DESIRE: to be open to beauty.
What beauty do you see in your life today?
